ROUND 9 GAME WRAP UPS

8 Dec 2017 by Maddison Ward

A Grade: A grade started slowly and was caught napping early with Sturt playing the short game and scored 1 run in the 1st. Not to be out done our very aggressive hitters used great discipline and pitch selection was great we soon got on board with hits to Vicky and Megan’s bomb over leftfield. Followed up with hits by Emily, Mackenzie and Georgia. All players hitting the ball and advancing runners by putting the Sturt infield under real pressure. By the bottom of the 1st we had poured on 6 runs. Batting continues in the next 2 innings with 3 runs in each. Going into the 4th innings we had smashed our way to a 12-3 lead. With some good hitting in the last Sturt managed to pefg 2 runs but our defence again tightened up to keep the score 12 to 6. Special mention to both Megan and Enily both getting 3 safe hits and again Macca pitching well keeping the Sturt hitters to minimum impact. A great effort by all and our performances are getting better and better each week. Next Saturday we take on league leader Walkerville. Let’s keep our roll going ladies. ~Butch

B Grade: We played Glenelg on Diamond 2 we started slowly giving up 4 1st innings runs. Our fielding was ok with just the 1 error early. Special mention to young Ella Forrester who caught her first senior game, and did a great job. We again failed with the bat except for Karen Miller and a triple to Phoebe Hynd were our only 2 safe hits. ~Milly

C Grade: game 11 of the season was ab excellent 4-1 win over West Torrens for C grade. We started in the field with Naoko striking out their side on 9 pitches. We got going with a walk to Rowdy who scored on an error from Naoko’s infield shot, Liz was out at the plate trying to score on Birthday girl wheels Callaghan’s outfield hit. West Torrens scored 1 run on 2 hits Naoko fanned another 2. Bottom of the 2nd base hits everywhere, first Nickers and then Theresa, they both scored on JJ’s hit but 2 runs was all we got. With both pitchers on getting on top West Torrens didn’t get another base runner until the top of the 7th our only base runner was Andrea after her centre field shot but couldn’t score. The game highlight came in the 6th when Nickers stepped up flexed the guns and smashed it over left fields head. BOOM HOMERUN. Theresa followed with another hit we then shut them down for a 4-1 WIN. Safe hits to Nicole Whinnett 2 (homeruns) Theresa Lemberg 2, Andrea McKinnon 1 and Janaya Callaghan 1. Naoko struck out another 8 batters. Just an all-round great team win. ~Andrew

D Grade: D grade played against Walkerville on Diamond 9. We had Danielle Mellett starting on the pitching mound for the first time. She did a good job, but Walkerville was too strong with their batting. Kelly Sheehan came on to relieve Danielle. Our team got a few safe hits, but couldn’t get it past Walkerville’s infield as they were really good at fielding the ball. A big thank you to the juniors who have been filling in for our team. A mention goes to Paris Callaghan for scoring a run in this game. On the 3rd inning Jess Blackford came on the mound to finish off the game. Unfortunately Walkerville was strong hitting team and we lost on a mercy rule 19-1. ~Marcellus

U17’s Black: We played West Torrens Gold 5-3 while we went down our girls were gallant in defeat with some smart plays and tight fielding. To West Torrens credit they had some brilliant base running. Ella was brilliant in the circle for us and also hit a home run with runners on JJ followed suit with a cracker 3 bagger but we left our own run too late and time was not on our side. ~Deb

U17’s White: Very pleased to report that our young U17’s team won on the weekend!! First win for the season against West Torrens Blue 10-7. Emily again led off well hitting a safe hit to centre field. Charlize received a walk and then Taylor hit a homerun to bring the first 3 runs of the game. We batted through the line up in the first innings. Other hits for the game went to Rianna, Charlize and Paris. We had many plays in the field however, still need to tidy up some errors. ~Lynnie

U15’s: this weekend we played the top ranked super strong sturdy White team. Surprisingly they didn’t pitch Millie Fidge who had troubled us in the past – however Port Pirie SAPSASA pitcher Halle Adams was on the plate. The girls seemed a little over awed by this team of strong players and we should have been able to hit Halle much better if our last week’s form was brought to the game. Nice hits by Mia, Ash and Taylor helped us get some on base. The Sturt team put some big hits in however I was pleased with the safe fielding out there. Well done Kayla, Georgia and Mia who cut off most of the balls in the outfield. We were a bit flat and a bit sloppy in the infield this week – it’s hard to keep up beat when you are getting beaten, however, keeping up the chatter, having a laugh, calling out the next play helps everyone around you. Quote from Taylor to the team – “everyone settle breathe in breathe out!” keep going guys – we have a great team let’s keep working hard, but remember you play better when you are having fun and not putting too much pressure on yourselves. ~Chilli

U13’s Black: PASC 11 Sturt White 2
A good batting display by the team. Home run by Taj, a good fielding display by the team, Sturt made it a slow game we didn’t fall for their tactics. Well done team. ~Daryl H

U13’s White: We had a great game this weekend against West Torrens, tough and very challenging but the girls held their own once again. Some great batting with hits heading out into the field. Great fielding by all, let’s keep it up. ~Darryl W
