ROUND 7 GAME WRAP UPS

27 Nov 2017 by Maddison Ward

A Grade: A grade got jumped early with 2 safe hits and a fielders choice Glenelg going out to a 2-0 lead. A big hit in the next innings by Caitlyn over centre field but was thrown out going to 3rd. Another hit by Tahlia to right field, then a huge home run by Vicky Mcfarland over the left field fence, tied scores up 2-2. We continued very tight defence to hold the Glenelg team scoreless for the rest of the game. We continued to get hits and plenty of runners on base, but not able to bunch our hits to score anymore runs either. A 2 all draw, but really was points we threw away by wasting runners on base. Remember ladies the coaches can see where the ball travels to and you shouldn’t be watching the ball but be listening to your coaches… that’s what they are there for. ~Butch

B Grade: For the 3rd week in a row we had to face the very strong Walkerville B grade team that would give most A grade teams a run for their money. We started strong with a lead off hit from Ella Forrester who scored after a Jenny Quinlan line drive that was too hot to handle at short stop. We held the opposition scoreless for the next 3 innings until their experience with the bats got on top of us eventually beating us 7-2 . Outstanding batting from Ella Forrester 2 hits ( should get an a grade game soon)& Ally Bialous single to left field.

Tuesday Night game: We have started very poorly in the field giving up 10 runs in the 1st 3 innings on 5 errors and 7 hits from a very young and promising Falcons line up. Come the 4th innings our players started to bat properly. Pitch selection is so important, with 4 walks and a perfect sacrifice bunt from Taylor Chillingworth we managed to score twice. In the last innings we managed back to back base hits from Laura Helbig and Phoebe Hynd allowing us to score again. Mel Leinert pitched her guts out but the fielding early let her down. 6 safe hits were a bright light in a miserable night. But we get the chance to atone this week as we play them again Saturday. If we start like we finished we’re a real chance. ~Milly

C Grade: C grade had a double header against Legends and Seacombe. The first game welcomed back Mouse into the side and we chucked her straight onto the mound. We also welcome Podzy as assistant coach in the C grade side. So Roo and Podzy took the reins whilst Whitey was away. We ended up going down by 2 runs. Our second game was a bit drama filled as we were down 9-3 to a depleted Seacombe team (7 players on the diamond). After a stern talking to by Roo, we managed to score 15 runs in our last turn at bat. Grand slam going to Naoko!! We then needed to dismiss their side very quickly before we ran out of light – which we did. Final score was 18-9. We play the same 2 teams this week also. Go Maggies! ~Lynnie

D Grade: Nothing received

U17 Black: Nothing received

U17 White: U17’s White played the U17 PASC Black team last weekend and it was great to see the excellent attitudes towards each other and the game. Mack took the lead with the girls as Vicky led the Black team. We had 4 safe hits for the game. Our lead off batter – Emily Haller displayed great leadership as she safely reached the base at each turn at bat. Great signs as we are reducing the amount of K2’s, whilst increasing our aggression in the box. ~Lynnie

U15’s: Another convincing win from this team of champs. Kayla pitched to Lilli and was consistent right from the start. Our batting was impressive and many girls got great hits with aggressive batting and base running. A few excellent bunt plays went down especially by Mia. The wild thing came in for a pitch – she scared a few but Taylor is getting more strikes than before. Good job Georgia D for catching to her. Score was 18-5 against Southern Districts. Thanks to all the girls who stay positive on the bench when it’s their turn off – this goes a long way to building a great team spirit. We will keep working on our base running – becoming more aware of certain plays etc all in all we are happy coaches. ~Chilli

U13 Black: We had the bye this weekend. ~Daryl Hamp

U13 White: Great team effort this week against the Hills. Thank you to Taj, Holly, Tayla and Marni for filling in last weekend it was a great help against a tough team. We improved in our aggressiveness in the batting box and were trying new things in the field. We are seeing great things keep it up team! ~Maddison
