GAME WRAP UPS ROUND 3

27 Oct 2017 by Maddison Ward

A Grade: Started very well, after 3 innings it was 1 all. Our batters showed no fear against the competitions best pitcher, all batters being aggressive and executing bunts when required to advance runners. Pitcher, Maddi Matschke did a great job in her 1st outing as a pitcher for quite a while. After about the 4th innings players seemed to tire, and mistakes forced their way into their game, with 4 runs in the 4th innings and another 5 in the last saw the score balloon out to 10-1. The score was in no way a true reflection of the game. We still tend to fade away late in games, this being our downfall. With the inclusion of 3 new players over the next 2 weeks things are looking really bright for our club. ~Butch

B Grade: A 10-5 loss to the competition benchmark was a bit of a disappointment, giving away 6 runs on 7 errors in the first 2 innings. After 3 innings of 3 up 3 down we started to get batters on base and managed to get back to a 6-5 score line, but Sturt managed another 4 late runs on 2 late errors and there goes the ball game. On the positive side Jenny Quinlan’s 1st game back from injury was tremendous with 6 innings of very strong pitching. Safe hits from Tahlia George, Laura Helbig and 2 from smiley Lateesha, unfortunately not enough this week. Oh well! The season is still very young. ~Milly

C Grade: Game 3 for C grade was against West Torrens and we went down 3-2 in a tight game. Maggies shut them down in the first with Naoko striking out 2 and KB grabbing a tough foul fly. Rowdy and Liz both got on base and a safe hit to Lynnie looked good but we couldn’t score. WTSC got 2 runs on 3 hits before Janaya swooped in from right field for a play of the day 9-3 that stopped them. With 2 out Theresa got on and stole her way home while KB picked a walk and it was 2-1. They scored 1 run in the top of the 3rd then Naoko K2 another 2 to shut them down. Port stopped them scoring in the 4th and 5th, Naoko was on fire striking out another 3 batters and Theresa grabbing 2 great fly’s at 2nd which left us 3-1 down for our last innings. Liz got us going with a hit to left and stole a base or 2 to score leaving us a run down at time and game. Safe hits 1 each to Lynnie Callaghan and Liz Di Paola. Naoko struck out 8. ~Andrew

D Grade: D grade played against Sturt Blue on diamond 14. We started woth the bat and had a few good hits within the infield, unfortunately out at first. In the first innings fielding, the infielders did a great job easily fielding the ground balls. Our starting pitcher, Nicole, did a great job on the mound but had to retire due to injury. Sturt’s batting side was too good and scored a few runs. Isadora came onto the mound and replaced Kelly and tried to hold up the batters. Unfortunately we lost on a mercy rule, 16-1. ~ Marcellus

U17 Black: The U17 Black team recorded their first win this season and they did it in style. We played Seacombe and won 13-8 after a 7 nil score. In the first dig the whole team worked together brilliantly and supported each other like champions. Strong batting from all players, though a shout out to Gemma Letton with a 3 bagger and a home run, which saw our girls not give up and push some strong base running. In the field we backed our pitcher Brittany who dug deep and pushed through soreness and we saw Meg step up and play 2nd base like she owned it. Strengthening our team was Hayley Williams who had some brilliant pick ups at 1st and the return of Claire Berry playing short stop for most of the game and slapping a perfect left hand running hit. Multiple safe hits from JJ, Britt, Claire, Gemma, Hayley, Ali, Mei and the most amazing catch of the year from Ruby. All this and we still have Ella to return from injury. I think the sky is the limit for this team this year. Special thanks to Issy for being my assistant coach and Sharon Letton for scoring and Lydia Tolija for umpiring. ~Deb

U17 White: U17’s White played the West Torrens Gold side and went down 15-2. The score line did not truly reflect the actual game as they only out hit us by 3. Other factors came into play to achieve this end result, we will continue to focus on elements of our game that need to improve. It was pleasing to see our batters showing discipline in the box and adhering to the signals 100%. Charlize Callaghan and Taylor Chillingworth provided us with a strong battery and good strong hitting by Emily Haller and Charlize. Certainly looking forward to training and next week’s game. ~Lynnie

U15: Our 15’s had a big win today 19-4 against West Torrens. We were very impressed with the discipline in the batting box. Good pitch selection and excellent execution of signals made us a professional outfit today. 4 perfect bunts went down and our base running was solid. Taylor had her first chance to pitch and she grabbed it and pitched extremely well. Charlize called well and her experience behind the plate today was evident. The change up pitch worked a treat. Very reminiscent of the Mouse to Lynnie combo on our Magpie Masters team. We are looking awesome girls – let’s keep working hard and back each other up. Much success will come. Good job. ~Chilli

U13 Black: It’s always hard when the two sides from the same club play each other. Although, after coaching the girls in the PASC side on the October long weekend, it was good to see how they are progressing. I did see some good signs. Go girls! On our side we are progressing very well, some good pitching from Holly and Zowie and catching by Tayla and Marnie. It’s good to see some of the things we have been working on at training starting to work. Briana looked good at 1st and Tommy had a good out at 2nd base. ~Daryl Hamp

U13 White: Great job team! It was great to see everyone out having a go, we had some very impressive base running everyone listened well. It was also great to see that we have improved in the field as well, all trying new things. Great aggressiveness in the batting box as well, very impressed. See you all this weekend. ~Darryl W
