GAME WRAP UPS ROUND 2

17 Oct 2017 by Maddison Ward

A grade: We started well, up 2-0 at the top of the 3rd innings. A couple of bad errors and lapse of concentration costing us dearly in the field. Power hitting by big name Sturt players clearing the outfield, put more pressure on our field. Very happy with the attitude in the batter’s box, now using a lot more discipline and swinging at better pitches. A new coach plus many new players to the team, has and will take a while to gel as a unit. Our A grade will continue to be selected on form. So all players will get their chance if performing well in the B grade until we get to consolidate our teams. We have 25 players to pick our A & B grade from even before our imports arrive, so we are in a very good positiom numbers wise and am sure with time things will fall into place as we get to know each other more in teams ~ Butch

B grade: We had a double header playing last year’s premiers, the very strong Walkerville. We started slowly, allowing them 4 early runs, but in the 3rd innings we managed to score 5 to hit the lead. Safe hits to Caitlyn Cattuzo and Jodie Cates, bravely hit by an inside fast ball to Williams and a safe hit from Claire Berry which set up loaded bases for our DP Laura Helbig (in her first game for PASC), who went BANG with a homerun to centrefield to put us up 5-4. Great pitching from our injured veteran Mouse and backed up finally by some great fielding, which let us hold on to the 7-6 win.
Game 2
We fielded the youngest team I’ve coached for many years. Kelsea Barker pitched her first senior game for PASC and put in a great effort never losing face as she battled hard. The Glenelg batters were very switched on and hit the ball to all parts of the field, but it would have been worse if not for our very young, but very talented outfield lead by Gemma Letton, with Charlize Callaghan and Brittany Ward who between them, took 7 catches. I know the 13-2 loss looks disappointing but it’s the only way we as a team and club will be able to be a force in the future. With only 1 players not in their teens it can only be a good thing for our club to progress. I’m looking forward to next week already. ~Millie

C grade: C grade played game 2 of the season against Glenelg but went down 7-1. Magpies took to the diamond missing some regular players, and Glenelg jumped us scoring 6 runs to 5 safe hits. A hit to Liz and a big sack fly from Rowdy scored us a run. The game then tightened up with Nickers pitching in front of great fielding; the game finished 7-1. Safe hits to Liz DiPaolo and 1 each to the Callaghan gang, Lynnie, Janaya and Paris. ~Andrew

D grade:
PASC 0 – Glenelg Navy 13 Mercy Rule
Our new players did a great job in the game whilst we are still finding our feet. With plenty of training, new skills & techniques, plus lots of batting practice, I’m sure you will hear of some wins coming soon. Some great plays from our game from our new catchers – Ashleigh Lemmens & Jessica Blackford were of 2 great new catchers found. Unfortunately I am still injured & had to pitch whilst still being injured so hopefully we find 2 new pitchers at training this week. Some other great outs were by Jess Blackford who caught 2 fly balls at 2nd base & a great put out by our 1st baseman Nicole Powell. Unfortunately we couldn’t put any runs on the board, but we did get on base in the 2nd innings. I’m sure it won’t be long before we find our feet & score heaps of runs real soon. ~ Isadora, Assistant Coach

U17’s Black: The U17’s Black team had a bye this weekend.

U17’s White: Our team had their first hit out for the year. This team is very much a developmental side and it was great to see so many enthusiastic players ready to go! We are able to give most players a go on the field. Highlights of the game were Gemma Letton’s home run with a beautiful, hard and flat hit to centrefield. A ripper catch by Claire Berry at short stop and Emily Haller and Ashleigh Catton remaining “cool under pressure” in the last innings. We did go down to Walkerville but lots of positives as the majority of our girls were playing above their age group. Looking forward to a great year. ~Lynnie

U15’s: The U15’s led 3-1 against Seacombe at the end of the first innings on Saturday. Then Seacombe brought in their state pitcher Aroha and the girls tried their best, but errors crept into our fielding, so Seacombe forged ahead to a 12-3 win. Emily Haller and Rianna Autio were our best batters on the day. Georgia Dornbusch put in a strong effort as our catcher. ~Peter

U13’s Black: Another good game by our team, although losing to the Hills 12 to 9 we had a lot of chances to win. Great pitching again by Holly and Tayla, a solid game by Taj, a nice hit from Briana and a great catch at the end of the game by Zowie. We have to work harder to compete with some of the teams, but I am very happy with their progress. Thank you to Jordan, Peter, Kaye and Tojla for their help so far and to the parents for their support. ~Daryl H

U13’s White: Our U13 White team had their first game this weekend just gone. We got runs on bases throughout the game, which brought out some great base running. We played againsg Glenelg this week and went down 21-4. Great job done by all, look forward to next week. ~Darryl W
