GAME WRAP UPS ROUND 1

10 Oct 2017 by Maddison Ward

A Grade: Started the first few innings well with it being 2 all at the bottom of the 3rd innings. A couple of errors at vital times in the 4th innings which allowed 5 runs to cross the plate for Seacombe. We fought back late in the game with good hits by Kelsea Barker and Imogen Krollig to score another run, going down eventually 11-3 but not all bad news. There were some promising signs. Also special mention to our 2 junior members in our A grade squad, Charlize Callaghan and Taylor Chillingworth who both made their A grade debut at only 13 years of age, they are our up and coming regular A grade players for both this and following seasons. ~ Butch

B Grade: PASC 7 DREW SEACOMBE 7
Good come from behind late in the game to catch up. Nadia Rees pitched her first game for PASC and threw well. She was later replaced by Mel Leinert who closed down Seacombe’s big batters. Seacombe played at least 6 A graders that beat our A grade Wednesday just gone. Special mention to Taylor Chillingworth who caught the whole game and Charlize Callaghan playing left field (after an injury for Jodie Cates). Both of these girls only 13 years old. Mel was exceptional as the closing pitcher as was Chicken Williams at 3rd base (making a double play in the first). Double header next week for us so we need all hands on deck. Training 6:30 Tuesday ~ Millie

C Grade: C grade started the season well against Sturt Navy with a 3-3 draw. Sturt got some hits early and went to a 2-0 lead. Good pitching and 2 double plays in the middle innings turned the game our way. The bats started to work and we scored 3 to lead going into the last. Sturt managed to score a run to square it up. A great first game for the girls against last years premiers ~ Andrew

D Grade: first game for a new D grade team. New coach and new players who have not played before, it was also good seeing past players who have come back this season to play again. We started with the bats against Seacombe but could not get any runs. With our infielders we were able to get outs at first and they did a great job at stopping ground balls. Our outfielders also did a great job of catching majority of the fly balls. They also did a great job with communicating as a team, using their cut offs when it came to big hits. Unfortunately we went down 15-0 on a mercy rule at the bottom of the 3rd innings. ~ Marcellus

Under 17 Black: With a 12-2 loss to Sturt Navy, forks were still flat from the weekend carnival and still have some injuries and some players away but we played with heart. All 3 pitchers dug deep as all 3 were stiff and sore (Britty stated, Gemma filled for one dig and Charlize closed). Charlize caught and Taylor ended catching for us. Meg took a ripper catch at short stop, Paris hit a whopper 3 bag hit to left and JJ hit well, stole and forced erros to be able to go home, those were our only 2 runs. But with injured players, and players away still to return, we are looking good for the season ahead. ~ Deb

Under 17 White: We had a bye this weekend. ~ Lynnie

Under 15’s: The U15’s followed their excellent form from the long weekend with a big 14-2 win against Glenelg Rebels. Terrific pitching and catching done by Charlize and Georgia D. Our batting was impressive by all players, showing discipline in the box and following signals like professionals, as well as great aggressiveness around the bases. Big thanks to Toula who came out of umpires retirement to plate for us and Peter who showed his softball experience through coaching tips and scoring. It was a real team effort and we look forward to a successful year with this positive, driven and skillful team. ~ Chilli

Under 13 Black: A great start to the year. We looked like only having 7 players to begin with until the PASC white team came over to help score PASC 10 runs to Sturt 2 runs. Great pitching and catching by Holly and Tayla, a home run by Taj and was great to see Tommy out. Well done by all. Go Maggies!!! ~ Darryl H

Under 13 White: Unfortunately due to the school holidays we couldn’t round up the numbers for our first game against Sturt Navy which forced us to forfeit. Thank you to the parents and players who came out and stuck around to support the U13 Black team, we will start our season off with a bang next Saturday. ~ Darryl W
