ADELAIDE COMETITION WEATHER POLICY
HOT WEATHER
Whilst participating in any Adelaide Competition organised event, Adelaide Competition Clubs shall be bound by the Hot Weather Requirements as set down herein:
1. DAY TIME ACTIVITY – AMBIENT TEMPERATURE
1.1. Junior Teams (Under 11, Under 13, Under 15
and Under 17)
1.1.1.The event or activity will be cancelled if the forecast maximum temperature (ambient temperature) as advised by the Bureau of Meteorology at 7am on the day of the event or activity is 38 degrees or higher.
This forecast is to be obtained by accessing the web site www.weatherzone.com.au and entering
location post code (5024 for West Beach) and follow the prompts at 7am on the day of the event or activity. This will provide a forecast for the closest reporting location to West Beach (Adelaide Airport). 1.2. Seniors Teams (All grades)
1.2.1.The event or activity will be cancelled if the forecast maximum temperature (ambient temperature) as advised by the Bureau of Meteorology at 7am on the day of the event or activity is 40 degrees or higher.
This forecast is to be obtained by accessing the website www.weatherzone.com.au and entering location postcode (5024 for West Beach) and follow the prompts at 7am on the day of the event or activity. This will provide a forecast for the closest reporting location to West Beach (Adelaide Airport). 1.3. Variation to Ambient Temperature Restrictions 1.3.1.The Adelaide Competition Committee can at its discretion cancel any Adelaide Competition event, if in its opinion, weather conditions may be considered inappropriate to a player’s health, safety, or well being. (Such consideration may be taken when the ambient temperature is above or predicted to be above 37 degrees for two or more days prior to the event and the immediate day following the event.)
2. NIGHT TIME ACTIVITY
2.1. Where daytime activities or games have been cancelled due to the invocation of the Weather Policy in point 1.2.1 above, the games or activities on that same day which have a designated start time at or after 7pm, shall proceed at the direction of the Adelaide
Competition Chairperson, in consultation with the Umpire in Chief or his representative and one other Adelaide Competition Committee member. (Unless clubs are notified otherwise, they should assume that night games will be played.)
3. INCLEMENT WEATHER
3.1. On days of inclement or rainy weather all Club teams must report to scheduled games
unless notified otherwise by the Adelaide Competition Committee.
3.2. Games are generally not cancelled for rain, however, may be cancelled due to the conditions of the playing field. As this decision is decided at the time of the game, players need to be present at the grounds. If the ground is deemed fit for play then the game will proceed.
3.3. If lightning and thunder has occurred within the previous hour, of scheduled games, the “SAL Lightning Strikes Guidelines” will be used to make the decision to play or cancel and is at the discretion of the Adelaide Competition Chairperson, in consultation with the Umpire in Chief or his representative and one other Adelaide Competition Committee member. 3.4. In the event of a “flash to boom” occurring in less than 30 seconds during games, all games should be immediately suspended by the plate umpire. Play would be resumed as per 3.3.
4. WARM – HOT WEATHER ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
On days when the forecast is for warm to hot weather, but games are not cancelled, the following conditions shall apply:
4.1. Divisions I and III (Senior Teams)
4.1.1.Change of innings time shall be extended by two minutes to allow players and umpires
the opportunity to rehydrate and cool down.
4.1.2.In the event of the fielding team fielding continuously for a period of fifteen minutes, time may be requested by the defensive team and a cooling break of three minutes shall be taken.
4.1.3. Water should be made available by each club for players in each team.
4.1.4 Shades or shelters shall be provided by all clubs for all teams.
4.2. Division II (Juniors Teams)
4.2.1.Change of innings time shall be extended by two minutes to allow players and umpires
the opportunity to rehydrate and cool down.
4.2.2.In the event of the fielding team fielding continuously for a period of fifteen minutes, time may be requested by the defensive team and a cooling break of three minutes shall be taken.
4.2.3.Sunscreen should be made available by each club for players in each team. 4.2.4.Water should be made available by each club for players in each team.
4.2.5.Shades or shelters must be provided by all clubs, for all teams, at all games,
irrespective of the ambient temperature of the day.
4.3. Within the Under 11 age group with the exception of the catcher all defensive players are required to wear wide brimmed or legionnaires style hats during all games irrespective of the temperature of the day.
4.4. Clubs failing to comply with the Hot Weather requirements shall incur a penalty. Penalty: Failure to comply with Hot Weather requirements $100.00 fine.
